Be who you are!

I had a Social Studies teacher in the 7th grade tell our class that clothing doesn’t define the person but that the person defines the clothing. She went on to tell us that Harvard university implemented a rule in the 1970s saying students could not wear clothing with logos on the outside.  Branding logos of any kind were not allowed!
You’re probably asking, How does this apply to a pitchers blog!?
We see so many kids following throwing programs because so and so did it and he throws the baseball 90mph now! They jump into this program with out any understanding of who they are, where they are in the growth process, and only wanting to be what someone else is. There are some simple steps to follow when wanting to improve as a pitcher. Yes velocity is important, no matter  what anyone says! Arm health and the ability to locate are both important as well.
The question is, How do you gain possession of all 3?
Here are 10 variables to gaining velocity, having a healthy arm and having the ability to throw the baseball where you want to...

1) Play catch everyday! (There is no substitute)
2) Long toss (JaegerSports.com)
3) Jaeger Band work
4) weight room! (Get in there)
5) hip mobility
6) flexibility
7) mechanics of the pitching delivery (use video)
8) weighted balls (they work no matter what people say)
9) running sprints (cardio is a necessity
10) CONFIDENCE IN THE STRIKE ZONE (This is number 10 because when it all comes together and a pitcher has confidence in throwing strikes you will see an uptick in velocity!
