This past week we have taken a break from blogging to celebrate the Christmas season. In that, we have reflected on the year that 2018 was and we are looking forward to greater in 2019. Through small adjustments and greater commitment we plan to increase in our accomplishments on and off the field!
Sticking to the title, "taking a break" from baseball, specifically throwing, what have you learned about yourself or your arm this off season?
Most baseball minds, doctors and others talk about taking a break from throwing for an extended period of time. One of the beautiful facets of baseball is that there are many different ways to accomplish success.
We are going to bring you another approach that many pitchers use in the area of arm health or arm care that is different than most that you hear from.
NEVER SHUTDOWN! What?!? Really?!?
There are many pitchers that take this approach of never shutting down completely but continuing to toss lightly during the so called down time of Oct - December. Pitchers who use this method play catch 2-3 days a week at a distance of 75-90 feet to keep the arm moving. This helps to keep any scar tissue from building, reduces the issues that come with ligaments and tendons tightening and eliminates the difficult time of ramping up the arm to compete again.
This is really good for pitchers who struggle with command and who are always endeavoring to increase better feel of their pitches.
Pitchers who take extended periods of time off from throwing always battle extensive soreness for a period of time as they make their way back to game shape. By playing catch 2-3 days a week during your break from competition, you won't have to experience the pain that extended time off brings to the arm. Again, there are many ways to arrive to the goal of success in baseball. This is just one way we have experienced and done research on that may help pitchers who are striving to accomplish goals this spring/summer on the field.
See you on the field in 2019!
